Tokushima, Japan –  27 February, 2020: NICHIA announces that its innovative Vitasolis™ technology has been crowned the best Packaged LED and OLED Technology of the Year at the Sapphire Awards 2020, a flagship lighting industry awards competition. The winners were announced on February 12th during a gala dinner awards ceremony held aboard the USS Midway aircraft carrier, the maritime museum in San Diego, California. Held annually by US based LEDs Magazine, the Sapphire Awards celebrate the achievements of individuals and companies across the world and present innovation and best practices in key areas of the lighting industry.

Vitasolis™ incorporates a new LED family that enables users to benefit from the energy savings of LED and the advantages of human-centric lighting. Other LEDs in the market have struggled to maintain high luminous efficacy (> 200lpW) when providing a strong cyan component in their spectrum.  Vitasolis™ technology, however, uses a unique blend of phosphors to increase the cyan content in a natural white light to facilitate better regulation of the body’s internal clock, while still maintaining industry leading efficacy. This improves motivation and productivity, without losing efficacy. The proprietary solution from NICHIA also delivers a crisper white and a wider-wavelength spectrum to deliver more comfortable illumination and improve eye responsiveness.

Vitasolis™ offers many further benefits. For instance, fixture manufacturers can take advantage of backwards compatibility with Nichia’s other LED product families, such as the 757 series, the industry’s leading 3030 package. This means Vitasolis™ can be easily and quickly deployed in existing designs as a replacement for other LEDs, without any changes in power, driver compatibility, beam shape or safety testing. Additionally, there is no need to adapt or redesign fixtures – just swap the standard 3030 LED for a Vitasolis™ LED. This translates into quicker production and shorter time-to-market for human-centric solutions.

Mr. Erik Swenson, General Manager at Nichia America, said: ‘We are delighted that Vitasolis™ has won top honors in the Packaged LEDs and OLEDs product category at the Sapphire Awards. Winning this prestigious award highlights our commitment to provide customers with innovative dynamic lighting solutions that deliver game-changing quality of light, all without sacrificing energy efficiency.’

Vitasolis™ is one of a set of pioneering lighting solutions marketed under an over-arching banner of ‘Light so Good’ which will be showcased throughout Nichia’s 2020 exhibitions, including LEDucation (AH4907) in March, Light Fair in May (Booth 16081) and Light+Building (Hall 8, Booth G60) now rescheduled for September.
