Seoul Semiconductor becomes licensee for Lumitech PI-LED patents for tunable lighting
Jan. 25, 2016
Seoul Semiconductor, a global leading LED components manufacturer from Korea, and the Austrian company LUMITECH, a leading manufacturer of components for Human Centric Lighting, announced a licensing agreement for PI-LED technology patents. These patents govern the industrial trade mark rights of LUMITECH’s PI-LED technology, which can implement tunable white from 2500 to 7000K with perfect colour rendering in a high and constant efficiency. Based on the license agreement, Seoul Semiconductor has the right to offer tunable white components based on the leading PI-LED technology, worldwide.
“This license agreement with Seoul Semiconductor, a profound and innovative leader in the world of LED, marks another license for our PI-LED technology. This, again, is evidence of the strength of the PI-LED patent family as well as the recognition of PI-LED technology as the premium technology in the Human Centric Lighting sector. We are delighted that we have successfully reached this agreement with Seoul Semiconductor, an agreement that will further help the Human Centric Lighting market to grow”, said Lumitech CEO Stefan Tasch.
Responding to this, Ki-bum Nam, CTO of Seoul Semiconductor, remarked that “Semiconductor has surprised the world with its Wicop technology, which does not need the packaging process. We got more than 10,000 patents using the technologies such as Acrich, the first commercially produced direct AC LED, nPola which is 10 times brighter than conventional LED, and Violeds which is used for sterilization of International space station. Through the four core technologies, we now have the comparative competiveness and lead the industry”. He also emphasized, “Million years ago, humans were exposed to sun and naturally adapted to the sun light such as a sunrise, sunset and has formed a unique biorhythms. Seoul Semiconductor will apply PI-LED patent technology to the Bluetooth remote control of Smart lighting Acrich 3 and supply lighting manufacturers around the world. This will provide customers with a healthy and comfortable light."
LUMITECHS’ PI-LED patents were originally filed in the mid-2000s. They refer to the manufacturing and the use of blue, red and special colour converted mint LEDs in order to accurately provide any chosen colour temperature in LEDs with a high CRI, as well as individual colours. According to subject market studies, by 2020 Human Centric Lighting will amount to 10% of the general lighting market. Seoul Semiconductors and LUMITECH are already prepared for the future of lighting technologies.
