Enlighted plans to exhibit smart sensor system for commercial building analytics at LightFair

The world’s most advanced digital sensor and analytics platform drives down energy costs, improves occupant comfort and health, and provides a long-term platform for energy management and building automation.

Sunnyvale, Calif. – Enlighted, Inc., a leading technology innovator and provider of energy efficiency solutions, announces the commercial availability of the first unified digital sensor and data analytics system. The Enlighted system effectively collects, analyzes and implements big data to drive down operational costs, increase operational efficiencies, improve indoor environments and unlock the Internet of Things for the commercial marketplace.

“Enlighted has now moved beyond the beta process and data stage with its smart sensor and analytics platform, said Joe Costello, CEO of Enlighted. “We now have market-proven systems and approaches for collecting digital data, analyzing it on the back end and empowering commercial building owners with the ability to act on the data. And it all starts with lighting.”

Enlighted digital smart sensors are integrated in every light fixture [1:1] to collect granular environmental, occupancy and activity data. Because the smart sensors are digital they are able to accurately distinguish people from other heat sources – fax machines and space heaters – as well as human and non-human, such as boxes on a conveyer belt. Additionally, Enlighted digital smart sensors have an on-board processor that can make independent decisions without relying on direction from a central machine.

“The key initial application for the Enlighted System is lighting. Current commercial customers like Google, AT&T and Starbucks are already saving more than 70 percent on lighting energy costs through occupancy sensing, task tuning, daylight harvesting, time of day control, and more,” said Costello. “But the data collected extends beyond lighting, including everything from controlling heating and cooling to monitoring people movement in buildings and retail stores for both productivity and safety purposes. Our long-term goal is to leverage and activate the data gathered by the Enlighted system for communication with a building management system that enables controls. We want to alter the whole building experience with greater visibility and control.”

Enlighted has also solved the funding challenge of buildings seeking to achieve energy efficiency through building automation. Through the company’s exclusive Global Energy Optimization™ program buildings are able to upgrade with no capital outlay, achieving instant operational savings. Customers pay a rate for their saved energy at a discount from the rate they pay their local utility. If there is no savings, there is no cost; consequently, there is no customer risk.

“Since our inception in 2009, we have been advancing and proving our sensor and analytics technology with end-users, while addressing the need to help these building owners afford the system,” said Costello. “We are able to offer lighting manufacturers and lighting specifiers a system that works in the real world. By engaging everyone in the value chain, we are confident we can achieve 100 percent adoption of smart sensors by the end of the decade. We have the capability; now it’s up to the marketplace to see and experience the value.

“We are especially eager to support lighting OEMs to integrate our technology directly into their fixtures during the manufacturing process, ensuring their fixtures are part of the holistic building optimization story and driving down the cost of the integrated fixtures. Likewise, we want to show specifiers how they are able to refocus on the aesthetic, quality and impact of illumination, with the assurance that the complexity of these integrating lighting systems has already been addressed.”
