Ya Hsin licenses white LED technology from Osram
Ya Hsin Industrial, a Taiwan-based PCB and LED maker, has signed a licensing contract for white LEDs with Osram, according information on the DigiTimes website.
Ya Hsin, which also produces mobile phones, laptops and DVD players among other consumer products, expects its revenues to reach NT$33 billion (US $1 billion) this year.
Ya Hsin's Opto Electronics Division was established in 2002. Utilizing internal expertise in PCB technology, coupled with a self-developed packaging process, the Division developed its own patented PCB-based surface mount LED components. These are available in a full range of colors, including white LED, and are suited for applications such as indicators/displays for industrial & consumer equipment, automotive interior & exterior lighting, and illumination.
Digitimes says that the company has current monthly shipments of SMD-LEDs totaling 400,000-500,000 units.
Ya Hsin is the fourth Taiwan-based LED maker to sign an agreement for licensing white-LED patent technology from Osram: Harvatek, Everlight Electronics and Lite-On Technology are the others (see Patents: Blue and white LEDs).
Ya Hsin said that it does not rule out the possibility of partnering with Osram for OEM/ODM production.
