Contrac Lighting introduces LED luminaires with Tridonic/Philiips LEDs

Aug. 31, 2012
Date Announced: 31 Aug 2012 Contrac Lighting, the UK based manufacturer of specialist lighting solutions for retail, industrial, commercial and leisure applications, has announced the launch of a range of LED fittings to compliment its fluorescent office and factory lighting solutions.By using the Tridonic Stark QLE system and the Philips Fortimo LED line system, and working closely with both companies, Contrac have been able to manufacture solutions that deliver market leading performance. For the open and louvred fittings, LV (isolated) panels were more suitable and in the closed panel fittings, the more efficient HV (non-isolated) system is being used.Several of the luminaire designs have been developed and manufactured based on Contrac’s existing office style fittings Softlux 1, Softlux 5 and Levance, with two completely new fitting styles developed named Softlux 8 LED and Prism LED HO. Contrac are extremely pleased with the performance of all the new LED fittings. As an example, the Prism LED HO fitting, unlike most fittings of this type on the market, will replace a 4x24w option, on a one for one basis, whilst delivering a 48% energy saving. The feedback Contrac received during field trials and market research, was that when installing a typical LED panel more are required and need to be aligned together in a group, to get the same light output and uniformity as a fluorescent alternative. The Contrac Prism LED HO fitting eliminates the need for this and fitted with a Prism Panel, is more aesthetically pleasing than a plain opal panel. Contrac has also developed an LED bay fitting to compliment its range of energy saving Low, Mid and Highbay industrial fittings, this fitting is already on trial at several sites and with a lumen package of 13200 lumens works extremely well in place of a 4x54w fitting and delivers a 50% energy saving. Unlike most fittings of its kind, the Prism LED HO will replace a 4x24w light on a one for one basis whilst offering a 48% energy saving. The feedback Contrac received during its market research was that when installing a typical LED panel, to get the same light output and uniformity as the fluorescent alternative more LEDs, banked together in a group, were needed. The Contrac Prism LED HO fitting does away with the need for this and fitted with a Prism Panel it is more aesthetically pleasing than a plain opal panel. Contrac has also developed an LED bay fitting to compliment its range of energy saving Low, Mid and Highbay Industrial fittings. The fitting is already on trial at several sites and with a lumen package of 13,200 lumens works extremely well in place of a 4x54w fitting and offers a 50% energy saving. All of the fittings have gone through a rigorous thermal testing process to ensure the LEDs perform at their optimum temperature guaranteeing long life and the best possible light output.Malcolm Yare, key account manager for office and industry in the OEM division at Philips, commented, “Contrac have worked in collaboration with the Philips Lighting OEM department to develop high efficiency and sustainable lighting solutions using Philips Fortimo LED Lines and Xitanium LED drivers to provide up to 56% energy savings compared to conventional lighting solutions. They will also significantly reduce waste and environmental impact. Contrac’s sustainable lighting solutions can help reduce the energy demands on a building, as well as reduce maintenance costs whilst caring for our planet, without compromising on performance”.Anne Shone, managing director at Contrac Lighting, said “All our solutions have a focus on energy efficiency and these are no different. LEDs are becoming more widely installed for many different applications, and we are embracing this development in the market by manufacturing this new range of LED lights.”The final prototypes have now been agreed and tested with photometric data available from Contrac Lighting.
