The market saw a steep decline in 2009, particularly for products used in heavy capital equipment, such as the excimer lasers used in microlithography, which dropped over 50% in revenues. The military, instrumentation, and R&D segments fared better. The market overall turned around in mid 2009, and saw better than expected growth through 2011. 2012 saw modest growth with some segments having strong recovery. More importantly, there will be turmoil in many segments as technology and market share is readjusted all along the supply chain, from the end-user and system integrator, to the laser and component suppliers.
