Strategies Unlimited releases preliminary data at SIL from the 2015 LED Market Report
Analyst Stephanie Pruitt kicked off day two at Strategies in Light with a top-ten ranking of LED manufacturers along with detailed data on LED usage in market segments.
The data presented by Pruitt is preliminary at this point as the Strategies Unlimited team is working to complete the 2015 LED Market report for April release. Still, the data is likely close to the final numbers that the research firm will deliver in April.
The new data suggest a compound annual growth rate of around 8% compared to the double digit growth that Strategies Unlimited projected last year. The difference will be primarily due to some changes in projects in the lighting sector and component price drops.
The top ten LED manufacturers by revenue are:
Nichia
Osram Opto Semiconductors
Samsung
Philips Lumileds
LG Innotek
Seoul Semiconductor
Cree
Everlight
Mulinsen
Lumens
Nichia, with revenue of $2.89B, has a more than double lead over their nearest competitor in terms of revenue. Osram is new to the number two spot up from three last year. Mulinsen and Lumens are new to the top ten list this year.

Pruitt also covered individual application segments where LEDs are utilized. She expects 15% growth in the lighting space and 10% growth in automotive through 2019. The mobile and display markets are in decline. The number of LEDs being sold into such applications continue to increase, but price erosion results in a revenue decline.
We will have a far more detailed report on the market data in our next issue of LEDs Magazine. Moreover, our feature article from last year offers a nice comparison.
