The Zumtobel Group's Ledon Lighting unit has acquired a German LED lighting manufacturer.

Ledon Lighting, part of the Zumtobel Group, a major European lighting company, has expanded its activities in the LED sector by acquiring the business activities of My-tronic GmbH, a fellow LED lighting supplier.

My-tronic, based Morbach, Germany, will be renamed My-tronic Ledon GmbH and will market its products under the Ledon brand. 20 My-tronic employees will move to the new company.

Zumtobel says that the deal opens up new fields of business for Ledon, as well as growing the company's LED product portfolio. The resultant increase in research and development resources will enable Ledon to access new LED-based lighting solutions.

Expansion of its LED activities is part of the Zumtobel Group's growth strategy. Zumtobel Group CEO Andreas Ludwig says that My-tronic Ledon GmbH will enable Zumtobel to maintain the momentum of its expansion in the LED sector: "Through this acquisition, we are sustaining our pattern of growth in what is a key strategic technology for the Zumtobel Group. This will enable us to open up new fields of business in the LED sector and to manufacture new and innovative products."

Through the acquisition, Ledon will expand its capacities in the engineering sector, helping the company not only to implement ongoing customer projects, but also to drive forward the product innovation process.

My-tronic Ledon GmbH will form a "Centre of Competence" with Ledon, and will be a key supplier in the development and production of LED embedded systems and intelligent LED lighting solutions. Also, My-tronic Ledon GmbH will complement the activities of Ledon in accessing new fields of application, such as media facades.
