Welcome to LEDs Magazine’s Horticultural Lighting + Tech newsletter for Dec. 4, 2023. As we count down to the end of 2023, we look to each of our website channels for the top-performing content of the year by number of page visits. This year has proven difficult for businesses selling into horticultural components and fixtures, between a slowdown in LED retrofit and new indoor farm projects, rising operational costs that impacted new equipment investments, and continued difficulties in the U.S. cannabis sector in particular with federal regulation affecting funding opportunities. Yet there are still bright spots peeking through, such as increased project activity from Canada’s Sollum Technologies and regional project success in an arid climate, supported by Signify lighting.
Even the news that Current has agreed to sell its horticultural lighting product line to Acuity Brands could be seen as a positive development. Acuity can bolster its very young horticultural offering with an established suite of lighting products, whereas Current can focus on harmonizing its Hubbell Lighting and controls acquisitions with its other offerings.
Finally, we’re looking ahead to recognize innovations in LED and lighting technology with our BrightStar Awards program. We are excited to celebrate the Honorees’ accomplishments through our coverage starting next May. But you can’t be considered for recognition if you don’t enter. The Early Bird entry rate flies away after Dec. 29, 2023, with a final submission deadline of Jan. 26, 2024.
