Market adoption of LED lighting addressed at SIL Europe conference
Final preparations are underway for the inaugural Strategies in Light Europe conference, which takes place next week in Frankfurt, Germany. A top-quality line-up of speakers will address the central theme "Accelerating the Market Adoption of LED Lighting."
The Keynote Session on Monday September 27th features three high-profile speakers, starting with Martin Goetzeler, president & CEO of OSRAM GmbH who will speak on the subject of “Shaping the Future of Light.” Next, Jan Denneman, president of the European Lamp Companies Federation (ELC), will describe European Lighting Industry efforts to promote quality LED lighting. Also, John Magan, Deputy Head of Photonics Unit G5 in the European Commission, will explain the role of solid-state lighting in the Digital Agenda for Europe.
The ELC is one of the conference’s Supporting Organizations, along with CELMA and the Lighting Association. On the second day of the conference, Peter Besting will speak on behalf of CELMA and ELC, presenting information on LED lamps and modules in relation to EU regulations. And in the “Building the Perfect Luminaire” workshop on Monday, Steffen Holtz will discuss the CELMA Guide to LED Luminaire Design. A second workshop on Monday will discuss Standards relating to LED performance and safety.
Although much of the conference will have a European theme, Wu Ling of the China SSL Alliance will present a welcome perspective on China’s strategies in relation to solid-state lighting.
Elsewhere in the main program, Mike Simpson of Philips Lighting UK will discuss how the requirements of lighting designers and specifiers are being met by LED lighting. Speakers from GE Lighting, Osram and Lemnis Lighting will discuss the market impact of LED modules and LED retrofit lamps.
Drivers, optics, AC-LEDs, reliability and OLEDs will all be discussed in relation to their impact on the LED lighting market. Other speakers will address linear LED lighting, spot- and down-lighting, and architectural lighting. Uwe Hock of Sharp Microelectronics Europe will describe how technology developed for LCD backlighting can be applied to general lighting.
We are very grateful for the participation of all our speakers. We are also grateful to our sponsors (in alphabetical order): Avago Technologies, Epistar, GE Lighting, GrafTech International, Lynk Labs, Osram Opto Semiconductors, Recom Electronic GmbH, Sharp Microelectronics Europe, and Underwriters Laboratories. These and more than 30 other companies are taking part in the exhibit adjacent to the conference sessions.
Next year’s Strategies in Light Europe event will take place on October 4-6, 2011 in Milan, Italy.
