Today’s blog is a bit of a departure. If you haven’t heard through the grapevine or one of our mailings, the LEDs Magazine team, Strategies in Light advisory board, and event operations management have decided that the best course of action for the next in-person conference is to move it further out in 2021. Now, typically I do not post press releases on the blog, but my colleague Wendy Lissau has nailed down the most urgent information, so after promoting the 40 Under 40 all week, I am ready to let someone else take the wheel. So I hope you will forgive the unusual circumstance. 😊 Media relations statement as follows.

Endeavor Business Media and the Strategies in Light event team have closely monitored the developments around the COVID-19 pandemic with the highest intention of protecting the health and safety of its attendees, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors and employees. In these efforts to host a safe and productive event, the decision has been made to move Strategies in Light 2021 from February 9‒11 to June 22‒24 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
“While Strategies in Light’s commitment to providing premier education and engagement opportunities remains stronger than ever, the health and well-being of attendees, exhibitors, speakers and staff is our top priority,” said Lester Craft, Executive Vice President of Endeavor Business Media’s Lighting Group. “The timing of California’s recovery plan, CDC guidelines, and close discussions with local officials and partners have prompted our difficult decision to postpone the event until June. Conference planning efforts are already well underway, with a 40% year over year increase in response to our recent Call for Abstracts. We look forward to an exceptional event in 2021 where the industry can come together to learn, network and engage.”
Attracting attendees from around the world, the annual in-person Strategies in Light conference and expo will maintain its focus on educating the lighting sector through peer-reviewed sessions, panel discussions, forums and an exhibition showcasing more than 100 vendors.

Note that Lester mentioned a 40% year over year increase in the Call for Abstracts submissions. That is welcome news, as it tells me that professionals across the LED and solid-state lighting supply chain are as optimistic and forward-looking as ever about the state of R&D and commercial advances, the potential of markets, and the future of technology driving this industry to penetrate and differentiate among various applications.
