If you follow LEDs Magazine on LinkedIn, Facebook, or X, you may have seen our update that posted yesterday afternoon. And if you don't, then I have to ask: Why not?... But I digress.
Friends and colleagues, this month we are entering the podcast arena. Cue the kazoos and fully recyclable confetti! [Also, if you are so inclined, send Jelly Belly jellybeans. But not the licorice flavor. Gross.]
Having been advised to "expand our brand voice," I took this quite literally and began discussing with colleagues what a podcast from LEDs Magazine might sound like, and what it might bring to the table. There are other excellent offerings from the LED and lighting industry that I already listen to. What do I think might be missing? ["Besides cats," one of my colleagues muttered in the background. Fine, I said, exasperated. But that would be an interesting mashup, and you have no idea how much the lighting at the local shelter stinks. Again, a different topic for another time.]
A brand voice from LEDs Magazine, I hope, would be conversational, entertaining, thought-provoking, and timely — with a side of excitement for the constant evolution of lighting industry priorities, concerns, best practices, and solutions.
So how do you massage that into a mission statement — and a name — for such a podcast? That took a little more consideration. After much caffeination and friendly discussion, we settled on "The Light Track." Why? Because it's a play on the phrase "the right track"; I enjoy that, and you have to find something that won't get you into legal trouble.
Our goal is to explore topics in modern lighting business, emerging trends, market forces, and other factors informing the development of products and the deployment of illumination technology into the built environment. One of the guiding principles in determining our subjects and guests is how the information can be applied in shaping various aspects of the lighting business. These will include supply chain strategy, environmental and social governance, business growth, design and materials innovation, circular principles, regulatory compliance, and more.
Look for our first episode to land June 25 on our website or on your favorite podcast platform, with a plan to load new episodes every other week. You can listen to our trailer for "The Light Track" below.
