Lighting Group welcomes new editor

Nov. 9, 2023
CARRIE MEADOWS outlines the LEDs/Architectural SSL relationship, while introducing new team member LINDA BECKER.

I know it’s unusual, but I’d like to draw LEDs Magazine readers’ attention to some Endeavor Business Media partner content highlighted in our weekly newsletter distribution. As Lighting Group editorial director Wanda Lau moves on to independent consulting, we welcome Architectural SSL editor-in-chief Linda Becker to the team. I am already impressed with Linda’s insightful questions, her ability to distill editorial discussion into actionable takeaways, and her enthusiasm for approaching a new industry bolstered by years of B2B media experience. I’ve been covering LED technology and the lighting industry for 10 years now, and it has really benefited me in multiple ways to work with Wanda and I anticipate the same with Linda due to our different B2B experiences in industry focus, editorial operations, and audience engagement.

Recognizing that our audiences may not be aware of how closely we work across our two brands behind the scenes, I just wanted to take a moment to spotlight Linda and invite lighting design firm, specifier, lighting manufacturer, and business representatives to reach out to her with introductions, editorial proposals, and questions about the brand focus. In addition to editorial content responsibilities, Linda will be working on the Product Innovation Awards (PIAs) program, which announced honorees this week, as well as the biennial LightSPEC West event.

Finally, on that note, an announcement has gone out to Architectural SSL contacts that more change is coming, and it’s good, I assure you. In January, Architectural SSL will be rebranded as LightSPEC to align with the LightSPEC West tradeshow and the professionals it serves, with the aim to become the premier resource for professionals in the business of lighting specification, according to our vice president and group publisher, Janice Oliva. The media site will still deliver beautiful, intelligent, and insightful content on lighting and design; a rebranding will just better connect these resources for event participants, readers, and customers.

The Lighting Group continues to assess and refine the opportunities for distinct coverage between our brands as well as collaboration and content sharing where appropriate. You might think of it this way: LEDs will carry on providing perspective on research, technology, markets, applications, and developers of LED products, enabling technologies, and controls systems that position the light sources for optimal implementation; while the next generation of Architectural SSL as LightSPEC will continue its expansion of coverage on design practice, projects, and products targeted to professionals involved in architectural lighting including lighting designers, architects, interior designers, manufacturers, and consultants.

As always, I welcome our contacts to reach out with any questions or suggestions.
