Lumitronix extends its UV portfolio with new UV-C LED modules for sterilisation and decontamination
The Swabian LED company Lumitronix has used the current situation to expand its range of products in the UV-C sector. Within a short period of time, three linear module solutions have been developed, which are primarily aimed at professional customers who are trained in the use of UV-C radiation and can ensure hazard-free operation.
In developing the products, the LED specialists from Hechingen relied not only on the UV-C LEDs from Seoul Viosys but also on the new Violet UV-C optic from the Finnish optics manufacturer LEDiL. The linear lens array made of special UV-resistant silicone was installed in two module versions. The LEDs from Seoul Viosys emit a wavelength of 275 nm and achieve an optical output of 152 mW in combination with the rod lens. This makes it possible to kill 99.9% of irradiated viruses, germs and bacteria within a few seconds at a distance of 10 cm.
The UV-C solutions designed by Lumitronix can be used by customers from different industries with different experiences with UV-C radiation.
The first module variant is a complete solution and is operated with constant voltage (48 V). In addition to a circuit board equipped with 12 UV-C LEDs from Seoul Viosys and three signal LEDs (red, green, blue), the module also consists of a cover containing the violet optics and a robust aluminium housing that is very easy to install with screws. In addition, the case accommodates the PowerController V2, a compact control unit that offers the user options for safe operation of the module.
Since UV radiation - especially in the wavelength range of 200 - 400 nm - has an extremely destructive effect on organic and inorganic tissue, contact with people should be avoided and limited to a short period of time in the case of objects. Lumitronix has addressed this problem and developed a concept for the safe operation of the LED module.
A combination of button, switch, motion sensor (still to be connected separately) and the three signal LEDs ensures that there are no people in the room where sterilization is to be performed. The UVC module can only be activated via the switch when the motion sensor registers no more movement after 10 seconds, the button is activated by closing the door and all safety conditions are fulfilled by a green signal LED.
The second module version also includes a circuit board with 12 UV-C LEDs and three control diodes as well as a cover with the rod lens of LEDiL. An external control unit can be easily connected. The constant current module (450 mA) is primarily aimed at the processing industry, such as luminaire manufacturers or medical technology companies.
Last but not least, a third version is available in the form of an aluminium circuit board, which is equipped in the same way as the second version. In addition, the optics have been omitted, but are available separately. Again, 450 mA constant current is required for operation.
