Chevy Chase, MD (February 2022) - With growing global concerns about the sustainability of everyday products and processes, all industrial chemicals are receiving increased scrutiny to ensure the safe manufacture, use, and end of life handling. RadTech, the nonprofit for ultraviolet, electron beam and LED curing technologies (UV/EB/LED), has established a new volunteer driven service to monitor regulatory trends and serve as a "third party" information resource for companies using UV/EB/LED chemistries-- the Energy Curing Users Resource Group (ECURG).
“The current industry environment is a dynamic place for chemical relabeling/reclassification, and safety communications on Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are not always clear and easy to understand," say Jake Staples, ECURG Committee Chair & RadTech Board Member, Wausau Coated Products Inc. "RadTech is a leader in communicating safe handling of UV/EB/LED chemicals, and we are taking that a step further by the formation of this resource group of technical experts to offer advice and sharing of best practices.”
"To help members with the reclassification and relabeling of UV/EB/LED raw materials and an ever more difficult new chemical registration process under 'New TSCA' (LCSA) since 2016, the new ECURG committee will serve as an information clearinghouse and information source for RadTech members in an effort to provide the best/latest information along with sharing of lessons learned in order to help members avoid some of the obstacles that they will may face," says Michael Gould, RadTech Incoming President, Chair RadTech EHS, Rahn USA Corp. "Our mission is to assist members and end users in any practical way that we can for the purpose of promoting successful, safe and sustainable industry growth."
"This new group will live the mission of RadTech to support the growth of radiation curing technologies," says Susan Bailey, RadTech President, Michelman. "Under the leadership of Jake and Michael, the group will support end users as well as providing a forum to anticipate the labeling and use implications of the complex and developing regulatory landscape."
