WAC Lighting is a leading manufacturer of task and decorative lighting.Celebrating its 26th anniversary, the NYAWC is opening a new emergency shelter for families called Happy House, which serves the Queens Community and provides a human trafficking recovery program called “Project Free.” Project Free recognizes the many similarities between domestic violence and human trafficking. Every year the NYAWC receives 3,000 calls to its hotline in various languages and assists battered women and their children. Of the women they serve, most come to the center with incomes below the poverty line. More than 70 percent enroll in Vocational or English language training through the organization’s Emergency Shelter Program. The NYAWC helps Asian, Pacific Islander, and South Asian women and their children in the New York metro area to overcome violence and govern their own lives, free of abuse.
