UK, April 2023 – Workwear fashion brand Engelbert Strauss has implemented a comprehensive lighting refurbishment in its new urban workwear store to create a distinctive light signature. During the pandemic period, the company used the opportunity to revamp its lighting with over 900 powerful LED spotlights provided by TRILUX Group's retail lighting expert, OKTALITE. The new lighting design showcases the brand, fashion, and events with less energy consumption and greater intensity.
Engelbert Strauss is a family-owned company based in Biebergemünd, Hesse, around 50 kilometres from Frankfurt am Main. The brand is renowned for its innovation in new products and presentation of fashion and lifestyle. This spring, it will launch the world's first biodegradable trousers made of banana fibres, showcasing its commitment to sustainability in fashion. The brand will celebrate the launch with several fashion events.
According to Thomas Bock, Project Manager at Oktalite, "a brand can be experienced through light in these stores. Many events take place that attract customers, even from Frankfurt. For such a shopping experience, the lighting must be 100% right. Our new luminaires are power packages with up to 6000 lumens. With them, we effortlessly set strong accents in the room and on surfaces, even from great heights."
The new lighting design complements the huge shopping landscape with an industrial look, spanning over 2,650 m2. The room height is almost eight metres, and the trapezoidal sheet metal ceiling blurs the boundary between the store and the event hall. The digital "E.S. Infopoints" provide in-depth product information via screens. The "KIDZ Corner" offers a variety of services for the youngest target group, while mannequins in unusual poses or lofty heights staged with light are eye-catchers on the large area.
More than 900 conventional spotlights were replaced with powerful CANILO track-mounted spotlights that are one-third more efficient than HIT solutions. The new LED spotlights were precisely aligned at the height of five meters by experienced specialists from the service team. OKtalite used a slim, compact luminaire design in black. The GRADO floodlight provides concise illumination of displays and graphics on the walls. The overall focus of this project was on greater sustainability, reducing energy consumption from 28.4 W/m2 to 13.9 W/m2. The new luminaires were packaged collectively to reduce waste, highlighting the brand's environmentally friendly packaging concepts.
Besides the workwear store in Biebergemünd, OKTALITE also refurbished the Engelbert Strauss store in Bergkirchen near Munich, prioritising lighting quality and energy efficiency. The brand's commitment to sustainability underscores its focus on providing a pleasant shopping experience and emphasising the merchandise's durability, functionality and robustness. "The focus in retail is increasingly on efficient lighting quality, good service and environmentally friendly packaging concepts," says Thomas Bock.
