LEDs Magazine 40 Under 40 Profile: Richard Hall
With a degree in electrical engineering, and a minor in electronic materials, Richard Hall took a position with Cree shortly after graduating from Michigan Technological University. He left Cree for Philips before making the transition to LumenFocus in 2016.
Hall’s chief responsibility is to design the light engines used in products assembled in the company’s Henderson, NC facility, but he is heavily involved in all steps in the design process. Hall is the primary liaison with the DesignLights Consortium (DLC), working with the organization to list new products on the qualified products list (QPL) while ensuring that current products remain up to the DLC standard.
As a result of his cross-disciplinary experience across test and measurement, quality control, product development, and lighting design, “Richard has a unique perspective on the industry and has a keen ability to stay current on all the latest trends in LED technology.” It’s clear that Hall keeps up with application needs that can be turned to product development, based on his current research into UV germicidal irradiation (UVGI) and leadership in adding human-centric and color-changing technology to LumenFocus’ lineup, alongside joint efforts to integrate IoT controls technology with the company’s product catalog.
Carrie Meadows | Editor-in-Chief, LEDs Magazine
Carrie Meadows has more than 20 years of experience in the publishing and media industry. She worked with the PennWell Technology Group for more than 17 years, having been part of the editorial staff at Solid State Technology, Microlithography World, Lightwave, Portable Design, CleanRooms, Laser Focus World, and Vision Systems Design before the group was acquired by current parent company Endeavor Business Media.

She received a BA in English literature from Saint Anselm College, and earned thesis honors in the college's Geisel Library.
