LEDs Magazine is pleased to announce that managing editor Carrie Meadows has been promoted to editor-in-chief. Wanda Lau remains editorial director of the Lighting Group, comprising LEDs Magazine, Architectural SSL, and the LightSPEC West events, and will continue to contribute to LEDs.
Meadows joined the LEDs staff in 2013 as associate editor Prior to LEDs, she worked with editorial teams across the former PennWell Media Advanced Technology Group for several years, including Laser Focus World, Vision Systems Design, and Lightwave, among others.
As part of her LEDs tenure, Meadows has received finalist recognition in the FOLIO: Eddie Awards and has volunteered as a judge on several B2B editorial awards committees, as well as the 2022 Illuminating Engineering Society’s NYC section Lumen Awards committee. In 2022, she participated in a CBC Radio “Spark” technology segment hosted by Nora Young, highlighting the roadmap of LED technology along with visual effects specialist Kevin McGeagh and materials science and engineering professor Zheng-Hong Lu.
Meadows looks forward to developing new industry relationships, in addition to maintaining a commitment to objective and insightful content for LED and SSL professionals, while continuing to evolve the LEDs editorial mission alongside the dynamic technology driving applications of light.
“We’ve witnessed many changes in the priorities of the LED and lighting industry over the past decade since I’ve worked with LEDs Magazine,” Meadows said, “from improving enabling technology performance to energy efficiency to greater end-user flexibility and environmental stewardship.” She continued, “It’s imperative that we continue to listen to our audience members — who need focused technical and practical application content to support their roles as professionals in research, manufacturing, and design practice — while also continuing to broaden our insights to include social and climate initiatives, regulations and policy, and other forces shaping the direction of LED and lighting technology, applications, and design.”
A 1995 graduate of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., Meadows has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. In her spare time, she “flies” with her husband via Microsoft Flight Simulator, volunteers with an animal welfare organization, reads an “unhealthy amount of crime fiction,” and enjoys trail walking.
